Interview: Gay Hendricks

We at Sounds True recently asked a number of our authors two questions about the phenomena of 2012:
1) What is your view of the year 2012 being identified as a time of unprecedented collective change and transformation? and
2) In your view, what is the best way to respond to these challenging times? What can we do to align with the shift in a way that is most supportive of personal and collective transformation?

We are pleased to present psychologist and bestselling author Gay Hendricks’ responses. For more information about Gay Hendricks, please see www.hendricks.com.

What is your view of the year 2012 being identified as a time of unprecedented collective change and transformation?

There are many waves or pulsations that flow through life, from the personal pulses of your heart, lungs, and cells, to the larger pulsations of cosmic events such as sunspots. We got here on waves, and waves permeate us. The snow on your TV set is visible evidence of a cosmic event—it is leftover radiation from the Big Bang, the “cool echo of creation” as one writer put it. I mention all this because it is sometimes easy to forget that we are part of the flow of creation, and therefore wired into the cosmos whether we like it or know it or not. We are part of many waves, including many waves we don’t even know we’re part of. I think 2012 is part of a wave that’s passing through history, and that it is likely that 2012 is a sort of gathering or acceleration of energy. I’ve felt several such collective gatherings and accelerations of energy during my lifetime, and I’m looking forward to discovering whatever cosmic surfing lessons are available in this one.

In your view, what is the best way to respond to these challenging times? What can we do to align with the shift in a way that is most supportive of personal and collective evolution?

The best way to respond to such accelerations and fluctuations of energy is to keep it very simple: one breath at a time. Whenever there’s a gathering of energy there is an enhanced opportunity to get more skilled at doing the simple things that keep us aligned with the flow of creative energy inside us and in the outer world. Those simple things are feeling our feelings, speaking authentically, getting more attuned to our chosen life purpose, and loving as much as we can wherever we find ourselves.
