Description

Some of the oldest music on this planet has survived through the music of Ireland. This collection of 19 unique pieces, most of them recorded here for the first time ever, offers a magical and inspired insight into the Irish psyche through song. The themes, traditions and intuitions of these songs span the secular and the sacred, creating a highly charged tapestry of human existence, that challenges the listener to transformation, touching the depths of the soul.

This was a most welcome surprise. I took a chance on this because I like to collect music from different traditions. This far exceeded my expectations. Even though the first track's title sounds like a folk song, I immediately recognized resemblances to the Gregorian chant, and the final one is a rendering of "Ave Maria" sung with monks of Glenstal Abbey.
