ABOUT SOUNDS TRUE

Sounds True was founded in 1985 by Tami Simon with a clear mission: to disseminate spiritual wisdom. Since starting out as a project with one woman and her tape recorder, we have grown into a multimedia publishing company with more than 110 employees, a library of more than 3,000 titles featuring some of the leading teachers and visionaries of our time, and an ever-expanding family of beloved customers from across the world. In more than three decades of growth, change, and evolution, Sounds True has maintained its focus on its overriding purpose, as summed up in our Mission Statement.

Sounds True’s mission is to wake up the world.

HOW WE HELP WAKE UP THE WORLD

At Sounds True, we have created the world’s largest living library of transformational teachings that support and accelerate spiritual awakening and personal transformation. We make this living library available on multiple media platforms and in multiple languages for people of today and for future generations.

We partner with the leading spiritual teachers on the planet to make their teachings accessible through books, audio programs, online learning experiences, and in-person events.

We bring people together to connect and accelerate the journey of personal growth and awakening.

We provide a trustworthy and safe online home for spiritual explorers, where you can show up with authenticity and meet others on the path. We warmly welcome beginners while remaining true to the depth and challenges of the spiritual journey.

We create shifts in consciousness that unlock our greatest human capacities to love and serve.

OUR CORE COMMITMENTS

Here are the values that inform how we work at Sounds True:

We Commit to Being of Service

Being of service is an attitude of the heart, a desire to bring benefit and give generously in ways that really matter. Our shared mission is to Wake Up the World, and no great idea goes unheard. We mobilize our creative energy, intelligence, and benevolence. We lift each other up and serve our beloved community and our precious Earth.

We Commit to Welcoming & Honoring Everyone

At Sounds True, we believe in the power of the human heart and empowering individuals to speak from theirs. We are committed to creating an environment of collaboration, representation, and equity. We amplify voices to be heard and foster empathy for individuals to be seen. We will hold ourselves, each other, and our stakeholders accountable. When we misstep in any way, we humbly make amends, and we do better.

We Commit to Co-Creating an Extraordinary Culture

We create a culture of collaboration, appreciation, and excellence. We commit to building supportive teams that value open-heartedness, human uniqueness, and being genuine. We see every person as an essential part of the whole, and encourage each other to step into our creative power with confidence and integrity. We offer clear and productive feedback, take accountability for our actions, and celebrate our successes. Together and individually, we achieve extraordinary results.

We Commit to Heart-Led Communication

We commit to fostering a safe and friendly environment where everyone is free to speak and be heard. We cultivate this environment by providing training and spaces that welcome upward feedback and communication from the heart. We commit to having brave conversations with each other in a kind and direct way. We value truth-telling and transparency, knowing that such communication creates a healthy community.

We Commit to Being Well

We take care of ourselves so we can care for each other and our beloved customers, authors, and greater ecosystem. We support ourselves and one another through encouragement, acceptance, and compassion. We value being well, taking time to rest, and the importance of recharging ourselves. We offer flexibility to support flourishing in work and in life.

We Commit to the Journey

Growth—for individuals and organizations—takes openness, curiosity, and self-reflection. We respect that everyone is on their own journey, and we support each other with understanding and forgiveness. When we find ourselves stuck, we are willing to begin again. We know that growth and learning are endless and that our transformation contributes to the conscious evolution of the whole.

HONORING ALL OUR STAKEHOLDERS

We are committed to honoring all of Sounds True's stakeholders. This includes:

  • Our authors and artists. We strive to create relationships with our authors and artists that are based on partnership and transparency, and which are characterized by honest and open communication, equitable agreements, and a commitment to act with care and integrity.
  • Our customers. We value the intelligence of our customers and are committed to providing them with substantive, genuinely transformative learning experiences. Our titles are carefully produced and beautifully packaged and are backed by Sounds True's 100% Satisfaction Guarantee.
  • Our employees. Through a positive work environment, health benefits for families, flexible schedules (when possible), and an employee training and assistance program, we invest in the well-being of all Sounds True employees.
  • Our vendors. We are committed to treating our vendors the way that we want to be treated by other companies—with fair terms and paid on time.
  • Our investors. We are committed to growing the long-term value of the business through careful planning and reinvesting our profits into innovation and growth.
  • Our community. Through a matching donation program (matching employee gifts to nonprofits two to one) and Sounds True's Prison Library Project, we are committed to supporting those who are doing good in our community.
  • Our earth. We offset 100 percent of the power we use in our offices with wind energy credits, and we are committed to using recyclable materials to the fullest extent possible in all of our catalogs, books, and packaging.
  • All Sounds True books printed in North America are now printed on FSC-certified paper. The paper we're using in our books is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (the most rigorous, credible certification system) to be sourced from forests that are managed responsibly and sustainably. The FSC standards also protect water quality, prevent any harvesting of rare old-growth forests, and prohibit the use of hazardous chemicals.

SOUNDS TRUE IS A COLORADO PUBLIC BENEFITS CORPORATION

We've joined a visionary group of Colorado companies committed to making the world a better place by becoming a Public Benefits Corporation (PBC).

A PBC is a for-profit corporation dedicated to principles of social good—and that acts with transparency and accountability to the public.

We strive to fulfill this commitment in many ways, including:

  • Using environmentally sustainable energy, paper, and other materials for our books and other products.
  • Supporting balanced, fair, and fulfilling work lives for our employees.
  • Promoting diversity and equity inclusive of race, nationality, faith, ability, gender, age, and other group identities. Learn more about our DEI values here.
  • Choosing vendors committed to similar principles whenever possible.
  • Working with the Sounds True Foundation (our nonprofit sister organization) to provide scholarships for our programs, as well as providing learning resources to prisons, schools, and other underserved communities.
  • Double-matching our employees' charitable donations and providing them time off to volunteer with nonprofits.
  • Treating our customers, authors, suppliers, and business partners the way we would like to be treated—with honesty, kindness, and respect.
