Inquiry is a method that enables you to dive into the depths of who you are, open to your own mystery, and find your own answers.
The Inquiry online course is structured as a twelve-week voyage to places where no one has gone before—because each one of our journeys will be unique.
The details of each week follow: weeks four, seven, and ten are of special import as these are your live Inquiry Group sessions. The remaining nine weeks present video sessions hosted by Sounds True publisher Tami Simon along with A.H. Almaas, Karen Johnson, and our master teachers.
The course starts on February 27, 2017.
Introduction to the Diamond Approach to Inquiry
In our opening session, A.H. Almaas introduces the metaphor of the spaceship and how the practice of Inquiry could be compared to piloting a research vehicle that travels to unseen places and unknown dimensions.
- How the Diamond Approach to Inquiry differs from other schools of inquiry, such as psychological inquiry, scientific inquiry, Socratic inquiry, and others
- The importance of open-ended Inquiry
- Living your realization
- Being at “the razor’s edge” of your security
- Why Inquiry discards no aspect of our experience
The Adventurous Spirit: Uncovering Your Curiosity
What does it mean to have an adventurous spirit? In this session, Karen Johnson emphasizes the importance of becoming curious about your own experience—even when we encounter pain, challenges, and various kinds of suffering.
- How life experience can dampen our natural curiosity
- Why "real adventure" includes obstacles
- Valuing the immanent and the transcendent
- Staying in touch with the inner drive to know more
3/12/17, live session at 11:00 AM EST
The Marriage of Love and Truth
One of the key attitudes to support the practice of Inquiry is the love of truth for truth’s sake. In this session, Jessica Britt explores this attitude and the sincerity that must come with it.
- Distinguishing self-study from narcissism
- The discovery of "fundamental goodness"
- "Landing and settling"
- Trust in the process
First Inquiry Group
Meet with a certified Diamond Approach instructor to discuss the journey so far and practice with the support of your fellow students.
Openness is critical to the practice of Inquiry. In this session, Karen Johnson explores how we "unwrap" anything and everything in our experience that obscures transparency to our true nature.
- What it means to "make space"
- Allowing as a kind of radical openness
- "Liberating" your history
- The underlying purity of our true nature
Do We Dare Question Ourselves?
In this sweeping (and humorous) session, A.H. Almaas brings together all of the elements we have explored so far—curiosity, love of the truth, and openness—and introduces us to a further skill that we need, which is to probe and drill deeper into our experience by daring to ask questions.
- Different teacher, different expression of realization
- The accretion of ignorance and conditioning that covers our true nature
- Using Inquiry to find meaning in experience
- "Luminous darkness"
4/9/17, live session at 11:00 AM EST
Second Inquiry Group
A second opportunity to meet with a Diamond Approach instructor to share insights and practice in a supportive setting.
In the Diamond Approach, we are continuously aligning ourselves with the qualities and characteristics of our deepest nature. In this session, Sandra Maitri focuses on the quality known as "lovingkindness".
- The effects of lovingkindness
- The importance of being nonjudgmental toward our experience
- Inquiry as a process of opening "un-metabolized" experiences
- Being present to one's pain
4/23/2017, live session at 11:00 AM EST
What is necessary to expand our levels of access to the different qualities that support the practice of Inquiry? In this session, Jessica Britt discusses a certain kind of boldness, courage, and strength that will help us move from the known to the unknown.
- The nature of our personality structures
- Discharging tension versus Inquiring into it
- Natural dignity
- Taking a bold stand for oneself
Third Inquiry Group
Your third chance to meet with fellow students and a Diamond Approach instructor to share your experiences and continue to deepen your practice.
Staying the Course
One of the qualities of true nature is that of being steadfast. In this session, Sandra Maitri discusses this quality and how, as we align with it, we align our consciousness with one of the prime characteristics of our deepest nature.
- The "thin" nature of ego structure
- The Enneagram and the archetypal nature of repetitive patterns
- Becoming skillful about what fulfills the soul
- Integrating experiences of spiritual awakening
5/14/2017, live session at 11:00 AM EST
In our final session, A.H. Almaas introduces Diamond Guidance, a "vehicle of wisdom" associated with the practice of Inquiry that is not created by the human mind.
- Inquiry as an expression of spiritual realization
- The diamond quality of consciousness
- How Diamond Guidance allows our "higher intellect" to function
- Becoming "an instrument of illumination" for oneself and others
