Swami Srinivasananda

Swami Srinivasananda

Swami Srinivasananda was born in California in 1952. In 1969, he took his first yoga class, and during the following years the practice and philosophy became more and more integrated into his daily life. In 1977, Swami Srinivasananda moved to Quebec, where he found his guru and yoga master in Swami Vishnu-devananda at the Sivananda headquarters in Val-Morin.

Swami Srinivasananda was initiated by his guru as a swami in 1979. From 1980 to 1983, Swami Srinivasananda directed the Paris Sivananda Center; he directed the Los Angeles Center from 1983 to 1986. After years of study with his master, he became director of the Val-Morin Ashram, where he stayed from 1992 to 1994. Since 1994, Swami Srinivasananda, as the Acharya (senior teacher), heads a community of yoga practitioners at the Sivananda Ashram Yoga Ranch. He is also affiliated with the New York and Chicago Sivananda Centers, and the other Sivananda centers on the East Coast.

Swami Srinivasananda has dedicated his life to the path of "inner peace and unity in diversitym" as taught and lived by Swami Sivananda and Swami Vishnu-devananda. He acts as the American editor of the Yoga Life magazine; he is now studying world religions in the All-Faith Seminary with the great interfaith rabbi Joseph Gelberman. Like all the Sivananda Acharyas, he trains yoga teachers and tours extensively propagating the teachings of yoga. He currently resides at the Sivananda Ashram Yoga Ranch in Woodbourne, New York.
