Description

Recorded in the warm, pure acoustic environment of Glenstal Abbey, The Virgin's Lament is a rare recording of the oldest surviving Celtic music. Nóirín Ní Riain performs these medieval Celtic religious songs, as well as women's spirituals sung in Gaelic and traditional Gregorian plainchant.

The 11 songs on The Virgin's Lament is the direct aural flowering of Nóirín's personal odyssey into traditional religious songs of the Irish language. Brother Ciaran from the Glenstal Abbey says, "The spiritual statement [on this recording] has evoked unprecedented response, ranging from musical excellence, to deep healing powers, to ecumenical excellence."

I teach yoga in Southport, North Carolina. I play this CD as I teach yoga to people who are over 50 years old. Our yoga becomes prayers to the Creator. This CD opens our hearts as our bodies become instruments of love and peace celebrating the Divine Mother in All of Us.

Amazing. Her voice is truly that of an angel and the monks add a depth of spirit that is moving. I will be getting more music from this blessed spirit.
