Description

Healing for the “Unmothered Child”

The pain of abandonment, both real and metaphorical, can cast a shadow over our entire adult experience. Warming the Stone Child investigates the abandoned child archetype in world myths and cultures to find clues about the process of healing the unmothered child within us all. Along the way, this gifted storyteller and Jungian psychoanalyst instructs us about the psychology of abandonment in childhood, how it affects us in later life, and its curiously special gifts and powers. Join her as she illuminates:

  • The Inuit fable of the Stone Child
  • Symptoms of the adult “abandoned child”
  • The story of the Little Red Cap
  • The English tale of the Stolen Woman Moon
  • The four types of abandonment
  • Re-creating the inner mother, and much more.

Drawing from many world cultures, Dr. Estés has gathered a collection of deep myths, fables, and fairy tales with the adult listener in mind. Her storytelling creates a compelling picture of the orphan figure through the ages, while helping us understand the meaning of preadolescent abandonment in our own lives. Spiced with wonderful storytelling, Warming The Stone Child is a unique listening experience with a practical edge.

Validates my experience Review by Donna

Listening to this CD has helped me understand my own experience and enriched my relationship with my daughter and other family members. I love the way the story of the stone child can be told with different endings or to highlight different aspects of the psyche. This also helps illuminate story-telling in general as a practice and a joy.

Lovely stories, well presented by the author. I wished there was more actionable information for how to go about warming the stone child within, but alas! Loved the author's voice & the way she told the tales.

Deeply powerful story as medicine--this work is using for understanding of healing the attachment issues that bind humans (the suffering of the abandoned, neglected or abused inner child fragments, within AKA 'The Stone Child'). The audio is a masterful depth psychology transformation experience delivered as story and lecture, by Jungian psychoanalyst and cantadora (storyteller) Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estés, and bears listening to again and again.

I found Clarissa to be an excellent story-teller, who uses her Jungian insights to bring to ordinary audiences some ancient archetypal truths about central issues of daily living, in this case the 'unmothered child.' I shall continue to acquire her products.

Must listen to recording explains abandonment issues though stories and cultures. Gave me a keen insight into childhood I never heard or have seen addressed in over 50 years of reading or hearing processionals discuss childhood. It was kind of shock and awe for me about understanding earlier childhood experiences.

Pinkola Estes voice is clear and very soothing. Her delivery is flawless.

This really helped me recognize my weaknesses, and value my strengths, as an unmothered child. I've owned it for 20 years, and find if I don't "refresh" with a new listen periodically, I get off-track. I recommend this work to ALL who have lost their moms to death, abandonment, and mental illness. ON ever re-listen, I discover something new and helpful.
