Christopher Willard: Developing Mindfulness

Christopher Willard is a practicing psychologist who focuses on bringing mindfulness into childhood education. With Sounds True, he has published the book Growing Up Mindful: Essential Practices to Help Children, Teens, and Families Find Balance, Calm, and Resilience. In this week’s excerpt—drawn from the book’s companion audio, Practices for Growing Up Mindful: Guided Meditations and Simple Exercises for Children, Teens, and Families—Chris offers a practice designed to help both kids and adults better ride the ups and downs of daily stress. In the words of Sounds True producer Stephen Lessard, “ . . . developing a habit of mindfulness can actually help reverse the impacts of stress and overwhelm on our minds and bodies.” Here, Christopher Willard provides an ideal stepping stone toward cultivating just such a practice.
