Joshua Leeds: Sound As a Nutrient
Tuesday, July 19, 2011
Tami Simon speaks with Joshua Leeds, a sound researcher, music producer, educator, and one of the leading authorities in the emerging fields of psychoacoustics and bioacoustics. Joshua is the author of The Power of Sound and Sound Alchemy. With Sounds True, he released three music programs in collaboration with Dr. Andrew Weil: Deep Calm, Increase Vitality, and Relax and De-Stress. He has also created Through a Dog’s Ear: Music to Calm Your Canine Companion. In this episode, Joshua discusses the psychoacoustic principles of how tone, tempo, and pattern affect our mind and body; why sound is a “nutrient” to the nervous system, and how sound and music affect the lives of our “best friends”—our canine companions. Having been a student of Dr. Tomatis, I totally enjoyed Joshua Leeds’ perspective/applications.
Thanks so much.

Thank you very much for your comments. I have used Tomatis filtered music for children, learning languages etc. It helps to calm an overwhelmed mind, depressions etc. But what I have learned once your mind is relaxed, one should continue to search that helps to become connected with the body physically maybe through breathing, meditating, praying. My experince was to find my inner being, love it and then being able to connect with my surrounding, friends and the world This is the most wonderful feeling. A fountain of peace and love.
Have a wonderful day

I bought Deep Calm and found it to be very relaxing. I listen to it at work and it also benefits my colleagues…

WELL, I don’t know about just the dog being ‘down for the count’ – I am! This is music for a purer/higher consciousness. Good stuff.

This is an excellent interview with Joshua Leeds! For about two years I’ve been interested in brainwave entrainment audio programs and sound healing music tracks that assist in sleep, healing, and relaxation and found this interview very educational and informative. Thanks for providing this podcast, I like it!
