Jeff Foster: The Deepest Acceptance
Tuesday, November 6, 2012
Tami Simon speaks with Jeff Foster, voted in 2012 by The Watkins Review as one of the world’s 100 most spiritually influential people living today. With Sounds True, Jeff has released a new book, The Deepest Acceptance: Radical Awakening in Ordinary Life, and an accompanying audio program inviting us to discover the ocean of who we are: an awareness that has already allowed every wave of emotion and experience to arrive. In this episode, Jeff explains that we are acceptance, how to work with practical concerns such as financial fears, and the power of being with someone who is suffering—with an absolutely open embrace. Jeff also talks about his own path of awakening, including deep depression and some of his most important discoveries. (90 minutes)

Soo beautiful, thank you for this conversation. I receive by listening the ground of being human – it is so o.k. and human to be trapped, to search, to look for, to suffer, to experience what I experience, to want to optimize, to want to escape – and still I hear, I sense the opportunity for stopping anytime looking for something different than is here. Slowly it is sinking down into my system, in it’s very own rhythm, what acceptance in the end could mean. It happens always now – the acceptance. Big hug

There are more and more people who can no longer shove those uncomfortable feelings like fear under the rug. We can no longer hide those feelings by watching some passive tv shows or by going on a shopping spree. During the first third portion of the interview, I was not sure if I was going to get anything more from this than what I have already listened to, or read in the past. As I listened, those uncomfortable emotions started to surface up from inside of me. I decided to ‘stick it through’ and listened to the entire interview. I am so glad that I did. Jeff’s life story was very riveting. I can relate so much to that heavy depressive energy that he spoke about. He also said something that stuck out clearly in my mind. We are so programmed from a very young tender age to lead a robotic life. Get an education, get a job, marry and raise a family. I don’t buy into this programming anymore but at the same time I am tortured by the fact that I can’t share my thinking outside the box with my family and friends. Thankfully I can do so with my Sounds True friends! At the end of the interview, I did feel more acceptance of my uncomfortable feelings. Thank you both for this very important conversation. Tami, you are doing us a great service by interviewing people who can provide tools to help many people deal with difficult emotions and feelings such as fear, anxiety and depression. Thank you!

All of these podcasts are fabulous, but there are some that are just over the top in their message to ME. This is one of those handful. I think it just became my favorite.

Bummer. Felt like I had actually woken up today. Apparently, one can believe that many times before one really wakes. And no chair moments for me. Just an over and over again easy feeling of, well of course I would choose presence in each moment as opposed to any narrative going on. This has been going on all day along with a friendly, rich lightness. So, this might go away by tomorrow? Oh, well. I’ll take it while it lasts. :)

Magnificent presentation – we are all star polishers and cultural assimilation is responsible for robbing my authentic voice and these past few years I am coming into my own and passing this on to the young people I work with. I appreciate this opportunity to connect with myself.
