Jai guru dev, jai masters. There’s one topic on the spiritual path that people use words about, but who bothers to really understand what they’re saying? And that’s the topic of free will.

If you take his lessons, it is all about will, very strong power of will. Yet nowadays there are psychiatrists, psychologists — I read about it — that say you don’t have free will. To be fair to them, what they’re really saying is that your habits, the neural pathways, are so strong that for all practical purposes, most people don’t have the ability to exercise free will.

They just follow these habits, these patterns. But when they say there’s no free will, that’s what they mean: there might as well not be, because most people don’t have the ability to exercise it. They don’t exercise it. But let’s not just have some talk about free will. Let’s talk about what is the power of will.

If you start with a scientist, the quantum physicists — I always give you a little background on that. It’s not complicated. The philosophies and the teachings of quantum theory basically say that which you already know. If you look outside, you’re looking at atoms. That’s what you’re looking at.

And nobody’s gonna argue with it. It’s not about a belief. It’s just a bunch of atoms put together into molecules, which your eyes average out to see what you see. So you learn this in high school, it’s atoms. But the scientists went deeper and they said, well, atoms are electrons, neutrons, protons. And then they went even deeper.

And quantum physics says that neutrons and protons are not elemental particles. They can be broken apart. If they can be broken apart, then something made them, and that seems amazing to even think about — what made a neutron or a proton? But they have these giant cyclotrons and miles and miles of pathways that protons can fire through and hit each other, and they break up.

They break up into these subatomic particles called quarks, leptons, bosons. It doesn’t matter that you understand them. They give ’em funny names. I told you I like that, right? So what a neutron or proton breaks up into are what they call quarks, and there’s an up quark, a down quark, a top quark, a bottom quark, a strange quark, and

charm. I wonder who came up with those names, right? I don’t know, right? It doesn’t matter. They’re just labels. The point is they break into these tiny subatomic particles. All right? So it’s not true that the universe is made of electrons and protons. It’s made of quarks, leptons, and bosons. So what happens?

These things get pulled together by — what I told you, I don’t know why I know this — two up quarks and a down quark make a proton. Two down quarks and an up quark make a neutron. It’s just the nature of the universe, and these things stay broken apart for not even nanoseconds. They pull themselves right back together immediately.

All right. They had to have very giant machines to detect them when they’re apart like that. They pull themselves back together as the natural power of the universe. Okay, well, what pulls them back together? First of all, what are they made of, these subatomic particles, quarks, right? And what pulls it back together?

Well, that’s where you get into the other part of quantum physics, which they call bosons in physics. This is the deepest level of science I’m gonna tell you. You get to a point. But if you’re spiritually oriented and you understand any of this, you understand that our scientists are our preachers. They have gotten you as close to God as you can possibly get shy of being enlightened, and that’s very nice of them.

And you should understand — not the mechanics of quantum mechanics, that’s impossible, right? — but just the basic quantum theory of what they see as the standard model now. So you have these quarks broken apart, and leptons, which is just another type of a particle. And then you have these bosons, which we’re gonna talk about today, why scientists say there are four forces.

Not particles, not things: four forces in the universe. Electromagnetism, gravity, strong nuclear, and weak nuclear. Now that seems very scientific, but it’s really not. You all do understand that back in the early 1900s, they found out that magnetism and electricity are the same thing. They’re the same force.

There’s a force in the universe called electromagnetism, and that’s what holds things together. That’s why atoms hold together, et cetera, et cetera. I won’t go into detail. Fine. So now we have a force that makes positive and negative and all the things you understand about magnetism and electricity.

Okay? Then there’s gravity, which I won’t discuss. And Einstein made it very simple to understand, but they never proved it totally. But basically, then there are these things called strong nuclear, weak nuclear. Well, that seems very complicated. It’s not complicated. You’ve heard of radioactive material.

What does that mean? If atoms are pulled together, they start to disintegrate, they fall apart. What makes that happen? A weak nuclear force that’s able to — if you have a whole bunch of electrons on the outside of, you know, uranium-235, whatever the heck it is, they start to fall off. That’s what radiation is.

What about strong nuclear? And that’s the one I like, and then we’ll get off this physical stuff in a minute. It’s good to understand. But what is strong nuclear force? Here’s how to explain it. You know that two like poles of a magnet repel each other. Two negatives repel each other, two positives repel each other.

Okay? Inside of the nucleus of every single atom there’s neutrons, which are neutral, and protons. What holds it together? Why are not the positive repulsion forces of two magnetic fields blowing the nucleus apart? They don’t understand it. They said there must be something holding it together. We’ll call it a strong nuclear force.

It offsets the repulsion force. This is the truth. This is what they’re teaching you. Right. Okay. Why would I go down to that level? ‘Cause they have found out that even these quarks and leptons and bosons, they are not things. They’re wavelets. There’s nothing there. There’s just wavelets moving through a field, a quantum field, and they interact with each other.

And they end up looking like, behaving like, protons, neutrons, electrons, et cetera. And that’s what the universe is made outta. That’s what all the great masters taught you. It’s made outta light. Kind of neat, right? And your physicists are teaching you that. What’s really coming up right now at this moment are wavelets in a field, almost like if you drop a leaf inside of a still lake, a still pond, it makes wavelets.

So if there’s an agitation in the quantum field, it makes wavelets. It’s just wavelets that then have properties that pull themselves together. The forces pull ’em together: gravity, electromagnetism, strong nuclear, and weak nuclear. They hold those quarks and leptons together, and that’s what the whole universe is made out of, and it’s just little wavelets, including the forces.

Right. So now we’ll get back to what I was talking about. So there you understand the universe. The way physics explains that is called the standard model of physics, and Russia, China, America, everybody agrees that is what’s going on down there. It’s pretty far out. Okay. All right. Especially when the masters tell you it’s made out of light.

Okay. It’s just made outta wavelets of light. And Ramakrishna — I can’t help myself. I once asked him, “Maharaj, don’t you get embarrassed when you’re invited to the Prime Minister’s house and you stand up and start drooling and dancing like a maniac?” Right? And he said, “Do you know how you sometimes see ghostlike figures or apparitions

coming in and out of sight and then going away? That’s how I see your world. Sometimes these buildings you talk about tend to manifest. Otherwise, all I see is blinding light.” Okay, so what is the connection between that very low level of those waves and then the forces that physicists say — physicists say there’s only four forces in the universe: gravity, electromagnetism, strong nuclear, and weak nuclear.

Guess what? You know they’re wrong, ’cause there’s another force. It’s called willpower. Do you have the ability to pick that glass up, yes or no? What did it? Electromagnetism? No, I don’t think so. Strong nuclear, weak nuclear, or gravity? No, gravity’s fighting it, right? You have a force inside of you that is certainly different than the four forces

they say create the entire universe. Do you see that they’re wrong? Do you not have willpower? Do you not have the ability to pick a glass up? Did magnetism do that? No. Did strong nuclear, weak nuclear, or gravity? No. You did that. Volition. Intention. So they’re wrong. I like that. Okay. But they’re not wrong, because they call their science physics, dealing with the physical plane.

So they’re not gonna argue with you. But it’s kind of interesting. There’s another force, isn’t there? You use it every minute of every single second of your day, right? So there’s an inside force, and that’s what we’re gonna talk about, which is will. But you’ll see the foundation of what I laid by talking about

getting real close to the quantum field, that that’s down there. What is the relationship between that and will, and where does will come from, and what is will? Do you have it? You have it. You obviously have it. It’s ridiculous to say you don’t have it. What is it? And you come down, you realize, you know, who knows what the quantum field is made of?

The yogis, why did they go so deep in their meditations? The great rishis, the great masters, went so deep doing what? Trying to figure out what the quantum field is? They didn’t know a thing about the quantum field, never heard of such a thing. They wanted to know who they were. The journey of self-realization, the journey of who’s in here.

Who am I? Ramana Maharshi. Who’s in here? Who sees when I see? Who hears when I hear? And they went — the only way to find that out is to go back there and try to find the source of consciousness. Are you conscious? You know you’re conscious. You’re aware of things. What is the source of awareness? That is the spiritual journey.

They went so deep inside that they found the source of awareness. And what they found was, it is omnipresent, omniscient, and omnipotent. It’s everywheres. Do you know, I read an article that NASA had written some years ago, and it said that the quantum field is omnipresent. Wow. I’d only heard the word omnipresent

used to talk about God. Here this physicist at NASA is saying it’s everywhere in the universe, and it is emanating the vibrations for all the stars, the voids, the black holes. Every single thing is coming out of that omnipresent field. Well, the yogis went deep enough back, and something really weird happened.

Instead of being back there and watching what they were watching, they lost their individual sense of self and they realized that they are the universe, that they merged. Those are deep states. They merged, one with the universe, and became omnipresent. They were always omnipresent, but they were limiting themselves.

Why? Because they were staring down. You are omnipresent right now. And that’s a pet peeve of mine. They used to say, “I wanna go to God, I wanna go to God,” right? And I sit there and say, stop leaving. Because that’s who’s in there. That’s who you are. Your consciousness is staring at your mind, your emotions, your body, and what’s coming through your senses, and therefore has lost its sense of self.

Did it really lose its sense of self? No, it’s still conscious, but it’s busy being conscious of a limited universe, the limited universe of your thoughts, your emotions, I, me, mine. So it’s staring at that stuff, and that is what happens. It gets distracted. I’ve explained this a thousand times. How can that happen?

You’re talking about the fall from the garden. Now, how did it go from universal consciousness, oneness — that’s all just one thing — down to all these individual pieces? Because consciousness can get distracted. Can your consciousness get distracted? A loud noise, a sharp sound, a strong feeling, and next thing you know, you’re not expansive, you’re contracted, you’re staring at what distracted your consciousness, and that’s what a human being is.

Distracted God. Distracted consciousness. The awareness is the divine awareness. There’s only one consciousness, but it’s being pulled down, like I said. Are you distracted by your thoughts? You spend your entire life listening to your thoughts. As long as you’re listening to your thoughts, you’re not experiencing who you are that’s listening to the thoughts.

‘Cause you’re being distracted by your emotions. Yes, you get distracted by your emotions, by your body, by the world that comes in. And next thing you know, you, so to speak, fell from the garden. You’re down here now, and you must work by the sweat of your own brow to make things be okay, as opposed to who’s back

there noticing all this. It never left. It’s like sitting in a chair and looking at a picture over there. I don’t have to get up to look at the picture. My consciousness is aware of it, but it’s aware of it too much. It starts to identify with it and says, I’m the picture, as opposed to, I’m sitting in this chair looking at the picture, or, I am the divine force experiencing its creation.

And that’s what the yogis got, and that’s the state of enlightenment. That’s the state of oneness. And that’s why you’re told it’s all one ultimately. Okay, so what’s that got to do with will? It gets very interesting. So you’re in there and you have the ability to make things happen. How? Let’s say you wanna think about some math in your head.

I’m getting older, and I’m gonna admit, I’ve noticed I’m not as good at it as I used to be. It’s very evident to me, right? I can’t do the math in my head I used to be able to do. All right. And so basically, what does that mean? It means that I have will, and I can focus. If I wanna hold it in my mind and multiply this times that, I just use my will. I use will, don’t I? Don’t you hold on to thoughts, yes or no?

Can you make yourself think of something and then try to get into it and think? That is an act of will. What is will? The focus of consciousness. That is what will is: consciousness. This force, we talked about that universal force, which scientists at least bring to the quantum field. It’s very close.

Just one step back, you realize the quantum field is made of consciousness. It is the divine intent to create creation, and then it gets lost as it drops down. But will — go a little sidestep, just slight. In yoga there’s a name for God: Chit-Shakti. Chit-Shakti, conscious energy. That’s like, instead of saying that he’s George, you’re saying he’s a tall man with black hair.

You’re describing who he is by his characteristics. So you don’t just use the word God. You say God is consciousness and energy. Conscious energy. Just like electromagnetism is one force. That’s one force. It’s not separate things. That’s the nature of creation. It’s conscious energy. That’s called spirit and nature dancing together.

Okay? Conscious energy is a force. When that force of conscious energy gets distracted, what it means is it’s focusing more on one thing than the whole. In a state of true enlightenment, total awakening, it’s just experiencing itself as a whole. But if it gets distracted, then it’s focusing. It’s focusing its consciousness, it’s focusing on something.

So it’s not one anymore. I could sit in the chair and still look at the picture, but if I identify with it, if I get too close and focus on it too long, I actually start to think I am what I’m looking at. But when consciousness is even everywheres, that’s the divine force. That’s God. All of it is one.

There’s no differentiation. There’s no duality. It’s just one force of Chit-Shakti dancing within itself. If it gets distracted — what’s distracted mean? It pays more attention to one thing than something else. Is that not what distraction is? So when the consciousness gets drawn down into form, it now has separated itself, and then it all gets built.

And that’s where you start to understand will. So the divine will is just one. It’s all the same. It’s even everywhere. There’s no good, there’s no bad, there’s no right, there’s no wrong. There’s no better, there’s no worse. There’s no day, there’s no night. It’s just the force. What did Christ say?

Not a hair on your head moves without God knowing. Not a sparrow falls in the tree. Why? He is the tree. He’s the sparrow. He’s the hair. It’s all one. It’s not like someone unconscious looking at it. It’s one. But if it gets distracted, if it gets pulled down more to this object versus staying seated in the oneness, now you start to create duality.

You start to create differentiation. And what happens if consciousness stares or gets distracted enough by an object? It doesn’t just bring consciousness, it brings Shakti with it. It is conscious energy. Therefore, if you focus on a thought for too long, it’s gonna stay there. If you have a traumatic experience,

some strong emotion, your consciousness will be drawn down to it, and that emotion will stay there because you brought force along with consciousness. You brought Shakti down to it. And what happens when force comes up against an object that’s passing through? It can’t pass through. It’s like a dam. It gets dammed up.

Will is a power that can oppose anything in the universe. It can make anything stand still. A dam dams the Colorado River. If will is brought down and opposes an object that’s coming in, such as an experience, such as a thought, and so on, if it opposes it, then it makes an impression at that spot where the force of will

touches the rest of the forces that are coming in. And it becomes what we call a samskara, a pattern. Energy can’t sit still. Energy has to move. There’s no such thing as energy staying in one place, right? However, if energy’s coming in from outside — you saw a snake, it comes in — it’s got a vibration that you’re not comfortable with, so it distracts your awareness.

It also brings Shakti with it. Consciousness and Shakti, conscious energy, can’t be separated, the same thing as electromagnetism. So it draws it down and it opposes what it doesn’t want coming into it. You do that. You protect yourself. Your consciousness protects itself from what’s coming in. That is the assertion of will down to a given object, and that object will stay fixated depending on how much force you put on it, how much you resist it. When it tries to come back up, it becomes fixated in your mind and in your heart.

It’ll cause a samskara, a pattern. Well, but if what’s coming in is energy and what’s coming down is energy, how does this samskara get formed? Because the energy that’s coming in is opposed by the power of will. And you didn’t do it purposely. But if you focus on something, you have sent will, you sent Chit-Shakti down to that spot, and the energy can’t make it through ’cause you opposed it.

So what does it do? It starts to circle around itself. That’s the only way that energy can stay in one place and keep moving. That’s why the circle is such an important form in creation. The planets, this, everything, they’re moving. So that energy that tried to come in and was opposed by your will, by your conscious opposition, your conscious Shakti, is now circling around itself, and it will stay there for how long?

You tell me. Go study Freud. Now you understand what happened. Your consciousness started to focus on given objects instead of letting them pass through and letting them be one. Let it pass through. Okay? There’s experiences. Here they come, there they go. Here they come, there they go. There’s nothing in there opposing them.

They’re just all coming back, so that consciousness can experience its own creation. Literally, someday you’ll get the point, to understand that’s what’s happening. Why did God create the heaven and earth? So that he could know himself, so he could experience himself, for the same reason a musician plays music and no one has to hear it.

They just bliss out hearing their own. Like Beethoven cut the legs off his piano ’cause he was going deaf and he couldn’t hear anymore. So he wanted to feel the vibration, moved his ears down to the floor so it would vibrate. Passionate about experiencing himself. Artists are that way. Somebody paints, they don’t have to show it to somebody.

They’ve expressed themselves and they’re experiencing the expression, and it creates ecstasy. Well, that’s the divine lila, the divine dance. Right? Create creation and experience the whole thing, all of it, beginning to end. But if you assert your will, your individual will — and again, it’s not like you assert, it’s like it gets distracted.

You don’t pay attention to things that don’t distract you. The white lines on the road go by, the clouds go by, the people you don’t know go by. 99.9% of every single thing that ever came into your senses went right through. But that 0.1%, that’s a booger. Why? Because you opposed it. Your will came down, and because you know you didn’t like that, you’re afraid of the snake,

you didn’t like this, or you like that, whatever it is, the will got distracted, consciousness got distracted, and when it hits that point, it doesn’t even try to hold on. The very fact that Chit-Shakti comes down to that point where it got drawn down means that object is gonna stay there. For how long?

Psychology says it could be your whole life. You could be drawn down by something strong and then basically find out 50 years later that stuff’s still in there. And now you’re talking about the spiritual journey. The spiritual journey is to have nothing in there. The void, the empty mind, the Buddhist. Doesn’t mean you’re stupid, but it means you are not opposing the flow of life.

It’s coming in, it’s passing through. Everything’s the same. Everything’s just God dancing with God. All right? But when you get distracted — and you know you do, constantly — when your consciousness differentiates one experience from another and pulls your awareness down, it brings Shakti with it, and that creates a blockage, a samskara.

And so that’s cycling around in there. And how many of those do you have? As many as there are stars in the sky. Every single day there are things that pass before you that you can’t handle. Somebody says something. Somebody doesn’t say something. Somebody does something. Somebody doesn’t do something.

Somebody looks different than you expect them to. Somebody says something right or wrong. It’s constantly this thing. And now what happens? Everything you stored in there gets hit by what’s coming in. In and of itself, your mother talked to you a certain way. Now someone sounds like your mother. Oh, I can’t handle you, right?

It just hits the stuff that’s already in there and it makes this big commotion inside, and that’s what a human being is. A lost soul. I call it a lost soul. The consciousness didn’t go anywheres. It doesn’t go anywheres. If I get distracted, I just focus more there. But the source of consciousness, God, is God.

People say to me, “I thought God was perfect.” You are perfect. “Oh, thank you.” No, not that part of you. You are right now fully enlightened. There’s a level of your being that’s looking down at the mess you’re looking at. That being is God. That’s what they meant, right? Meditate on the self, honor and worship your own being, for God dwells within you as you. And that’s what the great masters realized.

So this concept of being distracted by form, being distracted by your own thoughts. Right now you’re just distracted the whole time. What happens is, obviously, the stuff you got distracted by, you had trouble with, so now you stored that in there. I always tell you that. Isn’t it amazing that the thing that bothered you the most, you decide to keep?

Why would you do such a thing? Right? It’s like, no, that really bothered me. I think I’ll keep it so it can bother me for the rest of my life. Those should be the things you’re letting go of, right? But you don’t. And so you store it and you build this ego. You pull these thoughts and things that you stored in there over the course of your life that didn’t make it through, and you put them together, you glue them together, and you hold them in front of the self,

of God, of pure consciousness, so that you can feel better when you interact with the outside. So you put a mask around yourself made out of the stuff that you couldn’t let go through. There’s nothing else in there. There’s no solidity inside the mind or the heart. They’re very high vibrations.

They just pass right through unless you oppose them, unless you use will. Every single one of your past traumas and experiences are because not only did you use will to not let them pass through, but you are still using will to hold them in there. If you were not using will to hold these emotional problems and mental problems and all this commotion, likes and dislikes and preferences and hopes and dreams, all that junk inside your mind, right?

You’d be enlightened, if you were not opposing it with your will, continuing to focus on it. And when it comes back up, what do you do with it? You push it right back down. It’s not comfortable. Do you have things in there from before? Do you not push them away? Do you not like it when they come up? Do you tell people, don’t talk to me like that.

I can’t handle it. What do you mean? Those are words passing through the universe. What is there not to handle? Because I stored this junk in here and I couldn’t handle it when it happened. Now my will is holding it down there. That’s a very important thing to understand. Some people say, “I’m always tired.”

Of course you’re tired. You are literally — there’s not one single… You know how your thoughts keep popping up about past things, right? That’s because you’re trying to hold them down. They don’t wanna be held down. The universe wants to flow through you. It was meant to flow through you so that God could experience his moments of creation.

I’ve told you that before. I don’t know if anyone understands it. One of the deepest things I realized: you are God’s emissary on this plane to experience the moments that he’s creating. That’s what’s in front of you, the moments that are being created, and you’re passing them back so God can experience himself.

But instead you say, I don’t like it that way. I don’t want it that way. I want it to be this way. It shouldn’t have happened. And I’ve told you before, you do realize every moment that passes before you, no one else has ever experienced, and no one else ever will. Right now you’re experiencing something totally different than everybody else in this room.

Different angles. And when you walk out, nobody’s gonna have the same experience. And they’re like pearls. Every experience you have, every moment in your life, is a pearl tied together that makes up your dharma, your job of experiencing that part of God. Not a chance in the world you wanna experience — you are part of God.

You wanna experience what you decide should be happening and what’s right and wrong, good and bad, as opposed to the divine force is everywhere and it’s experiencing itself. Get outta my way. When you sit down to eat, you pray. What do you pray for? That it’s good food, that you’ll feel better? No, you sit there and you say, come and get it.

And just invite God. He wants to eat, he wants to dance, he wants to sing, he wants to play. He’s God. He wants to experience himself. Are you willing to let that happen? That’s when it’s not my will, but thy will be done. You know, and you sit there and say, I know what God wants from me. And anybody who says, I know what God wants from me,

okay, I understand. You have no idea what God wants for you. You never will, and you shouldn’t. Why? Why does he have to tell you what he wants when he’s creating the whole universe? In other words, you blocked the ability to experience the divine force by building this ego inside yourself, and now you’re lost inside of it, and you’re sitting there saying, not my will, but thy will.

Bunk. What you’re saying is not thy will, but my will. So nowadays everybody wants the law of attraction. I can attract to myself, if I be good, I can attract to myself whatever I want. I get a house, I get the right relationship, I get a lot of money. That’s all the law of abundance and all. Where did you decide what you want?

Right? You’ve had past experiences that showed you that some things make you feel better and some things make you feel worse. I’ll bet you want the ones that make you feel better, and I bet you don’t want the ones that make you feel worse. Duh. I get it. Very psychic. But those past experiences, you had a different experience.

You want something different. You are not your past experiences. It’s not true that you are the sum of your learned experiences. Your psyche is the sum of your learned experiences. But you who’s noticing, the witness who notices all that, you’re not the sum of your learned experiences. You’re back there noticing that there’s something down there that’s a sum of learned experiences. That’s witness consciousness, yes or no?

Do you notice it? You notice that’s a mess down there. And if there’s a mess down there, you want things to happen to make you feel better, don’t you? So that’s my will, not thy will. All right, so we’re getting close to understanding will. So will is a major, major spiritual force. It’s also the entire problem that creates everything.

The fact that your consciousness is the power of will. The power of divine consciousness got distracted by a snake, or by what somebody said. Forget the snake. Can people say things that bother you, yes or no? I wanna know why they bother you. Let’s say they said it in a language that you never learned. Now, does it bother you?

No, you’re bothering yourself about nothing. You’re bothering yourself about wavelengths passing by you. And then you build this whole concept of self, you build this whole ego and so on, and then you go out to do what? To try to get everybody else and everything around you to happen in a way that when it comes in, it fits you.

It fits, so it doesn’t make you feel bad. It doesn’t make you scared. And people spend their entire life trying to manipulate the world outside, so when it comes in, it doesn’t bother what they stored inside themselves. A master, a yogi, doesn’t have that problem. I quoted somebody, I’ll do it again, right? We’re talking today about that part of the Gita that says sthitaprajna. Arjuna, I’m sorry.

I love this part of the Gita, and Krishna tells him there are enlightened beings, perfect masters, on this plane alive, totally self-realized beings who are just experiencing the divinity of their being all the time. And so Arjuna, his spiritual son, he asked him, wow, how am I gonna know such a person?

Does he sit, walk, and talk like anybody else? Does he levitate? And Krishna tells him, no, you won’t know him like that. Now listen carefully, because you really understand that we can see the application of proper will, right? He says, you won’t know him like that. If you would know him: in joys, he’s not overjoyed, and in sorrows, not over-sorrowed.

When goodness comes, he lets it come, and when it departs, it departs. When darkness comes, he lets it come. When it departs, it departs. He walks as a sojourner or stranger in the midst of the qualities of nature. Just as all the rivers and streams of the world pour into the ocean, but the ocean doesn’t overflow its bounds,

so the world of sense pours into the yogi and leaves him as it found him: serene, content, at peace. Equanimity is yoga. So when you’re not resisting, when you’re not manipulating, when you’re not needing it to be a certain way, it’s fine how it is. I’m just the experiencer of the divine creation every moment.

It’s not that I’m not doing anything, I’m experiencing the divine creation. And I told you last time, it doesn’t mean you don’t act. Once you’re in that state, just as the planets stay in orbit, just as your heart beats, there will be roles for you to play. It will be part of the flow of the energy coming in and going out.

And the next thing you know, you’re in what’s called the Tao. That’s what Lao Tzu meant by the Tao. Neither liking nor disliking, wanting nor not wanting, just being. You’re just there with it. There will be action, but it will not be personal action. It’ll not be motivated by your personal will, because the universe is coming in and it’s doing its dance through you, with you.

It’s a very — the Tao state is a very, very deep state of harmony, oneness. The way I described it, somebody asked me, how do you describe the Tao? It’s impossible, first of all. But take a leaf during the fall, and it’s hanging on a branch, on a tree. It breaks off. Why? There are forces. It didn’t decide to fall off.

It then comes down and follows a pathway. It doesn’t come straight down. It comes here and it blows over here. It goes there and it turns sideways. It didn’t know how to do that dance. It didn’t have to know anything. The forces of wind, the forces of gravity, the humidity, the natural forces

determine its path down. And now you look at the path and say, it’s perfect given the forces. It’s perfect harmony. Do you understand that? That’s the Tao. That’s what’s meant by the Tao, that there’s no personal anything going on, but there’s still action. But it’s in harmony with every single thing. If the wind blows this way, the leaf goes that way.

But it doesn’t decide to do it. It doesn’t worry about whether it’s doing it. It doesn’t think, I shouldn’t have, or I should. There’s nothing in there like that. But yet there’s action. That’s literally what Lao Tzu meant: let do. You are in harmony with all the forces that exist. How could you be that way? By not putting an opposition force in the way, your personal will.

But wait, I thought — what a wonderful thing. If you assert no will, and you are completely empty, it’s only divine will. There is no personal will at all. Are we doing anything? Now, what the great masters talk about when they talk about will — and Zen, for example, is a very deep path of will — is, now that you’ve used your will to get lost inside your personal self with all your emotions and all your fears, all your anxieties, and then used your will to try and manipulate the world, maybe you could use your will to not do that.

Right. Maybe you could use your will to, well, oh, let go. I’ve heard that before, right? You could use your will to let go of yourself. That’s an act of will. You know it is, because if something comes in and it’s disturbing, you wanna push it away. That’s an act of will. But that, Master called habit-formed will, as opposed to volition.

So you push it away. It just happens. Push it away, I don’t like it. You can be conscious enough at a higher level to not use your will that way. Isn’t that an act of will? Yes. That’s an act of will. But it’s an act of higher will. You’re not sitting there saying, I’m gonna buy into the garbage that I’m looking at.

Yes, there is a tendency, there are drives, there are fears, there’s anxiety there. You wanna know will? You wanna see the power? How big is ego? How big is your ego? Have you ever been defensive? Ever? Do you need to defend yourself? Ever felt self-conscious? Ever felt embarrassed? Ever felt ashamed? Ever felt guilty?

What is all that? That’s this thing that you built in there, that you locked inside yourself. Okay? And now you have the ability, that you do, and you will always have it, don’t ever say you don’t. You have the ability that when something comes in that is disturbing, either disturbing ’cause it’s so attractive it disturbs you, or it’s disturbing ’cause it’s so uncomfortable

it disturbs you. They both are disturbances. So you’re in there and you notice, here it comes. You have the ability to assert an act of will, and we’re gonna talk about what I have learned is the highest act of will you can use. You have the ability to catch yourself from going down there. It does pull you down. Let’s say you feel anger.

What does anger do? It’s a powerful force and it wants to express itself, doesn’t it? It wants to throw pots and pans all over the place and yell and scream, and that is a force that’s come in and it hit your stuff, and all this energy’s coming up. It’s disturbing, right? You have the ability, better do it early, to notice that it was starting and do something about it.

You do not have to get pulled down in there. You have volition, will, to be able to do what? I’m just talking my experience. I don’t teach meditation, you know that. I don’t teach. I’m not a spiritual teacher, just sharing some stuff I picked up along the way. The highest act of will that you can use is to relax.

What do you mean? I’m feeling I want to oppose this. I want to make him say sorry. I wanna manipulate so it doesn’t ever happen again. I want to do something to protect myself, to get what I want. It’s a very strong drive, all levels. When you feel that attempt to assert inside, I dare you to relax instead.

And people say to me, I try to relax, but it won’t relax. Anger can’t relax. Anger’s nature is to be angry. Jealousy’s nature is gonna be jealous. Don’t try to change the nature of things. They’re coming in. Can you let go? Can you ultimately start with, okay, I can handle it. I can handle it. You’re not wanting to. It’s talking through your head: no, oh no. Then you learn, okay, if I let it go,

it doesn’t stay in there. It passes through. I can deal with it later, but not out of reaction, not out of, I couldn’t handle it. And you start relaxing, and you start noticing when you relax, it doesn’t stay stuck in there. Of course it doesn’t. And I told you, will is an opposing force to the nature of things as it comes in, if you use it for that.

So it stayed in there. If you don’t use it for that, if you use your will to relax — meditation is the ultimate relaxation, by the way, but you can do it. I would say I don’t teach meditation. It’s a wonderful thing, meditation. Don’t get it wrong. I teach what you can do when you’re not meditating, which, by the way, is most of the time.

Okay. And I’d like you to understand every moment of your life is a spiritual journey. So basically it comes in, you feel opposition, and instead you do this absolutely unbelievable thing of letting go. But it’s gonna come in further, closer to me if I let go. Yes, it will. But it will be even stronger. Yes, it will, until you get out of the way.

It’s like a bullfighter. You don’t stand there when the bull’s coming at you. You just step aside, let it pass through. Very Zen. If you can relax in the face of that energy coming in, it’s creation, it’s natural energy, it’s coming in. Can you relax instead of doing something about it, trying to fix it? We try to fix things, don’t we?

I don’t like what it feels like. I don’t like what she said. I gotta fix it. Someday you’ll wake up and realize, as long as you’re in there fighting with it, you’re gonna be in there fighting with it. You hear me? You could suppress it, but it’s coming back up. And the real deep spiritual growth is that every minute of every day,

when it comes in, you’re conscious, and you choose to let go. It won’t go away right away. Some of them are very big. But it’s like you’re practicing. That’s why I tell you, when you sit down to play the piano, you don’t start with Mozart or Beethoven. You start with the scales. You will get better, won’t you?

When you wanna learn a sport, you don’t go there and play against the Williams sisters. You start with a coach or a ball thrower, and little by little you’ll learn how to get it across the net. It’s the same thing with this deep sense of relaxation. At first you complain about everything, and then you catch on and you realize, I’m complaining about things.

I complain about the driver in front of me. I complain about the weather. I complain about the rain. I complain about what somebody said. Do you have to do that? Well, what good is it? What good is it to complain about the driver in front of you? Absolutely nothing. You just get yourself upset. What good is it to complain about the weather?

Absolutely nothing. It’s not gonna change. So you take the simplest things. You start practicing the level of letting go. So every time it comes up, you’re in there. You can feel that tendency to resist, that tendency to fight, that tendency to manipulate. I dare you. You just start practicing with the little things of keeping your hands to yourself, all right?

Eventually — I’ll do it very quickly — eventually it’s not, I can handle it. Eventually it’s like, wow, if I can let this pass through, it doesn’t stay stuck in me. If somebody says something that bothers me — I can get bothered, hear me? You got patterns from the past and so on. Somebody says something and I don’t like their tone.

I can catch myself and say, not, do I like it? Don’t ever ask the ego whether it likes something. You just ask, can I handle this? That’s a totally different question, isn’t it? Can I handle this? And at some point, when you start handling it, you’re gonna notice you feel much better, because you didn’t destroy that side of you, and you have much more energy,

’cause you didn’t use your will to push it away. And so now all of a sudden this stuff called Shakti starts coming up inside of you. You used to get tired. Now you don’t. You used to not like the sun. Now, right. Eventually — I’ll do it very quickly — it’s not, can I handle it? It’s, wow, you are welcome inside of me, because if I’m able to let you go, I end up a much happier person, and I don’t then care whether they say the thing to me again.

I don’t care. If they have something to say, say it. I’m telling you, Christ, right? Forgive them, Lord, they know not what they do. It’s like, they didn’t mean it. They’re lost. Mommy yelled at ’em at the wrong time, and so they said something to you, right? And so what you do is you let go more and more, and the more you let go, you start realizing, hey, I’m getting free.

I feel all this beautiful energy rising up inside of me, ’cause you’re not pushing it down and blocking. When you push something down — let’s get this straight, those of you who understand the word Shakti, spiritual energy — anything you push down, you have pushed on top of the energy flow. There’s no way that when you resist it, it doesn’t cut off some of that energy flow.

It’s like putting a rock in flowing water. It blocks the flow of the water and it creates disturbance and eddies. So anytime you choose to push away an energy that is coming into you, either stimulated from inside or outside, you are blocking your energy flow. How do you know that? Just start letting it go and see what happens.

People write me from all over the world: my whole life changed. Of course your life changed. You stopped blocking the flow of your energy. And so you stop pushing it away. You relax. So at first it’s, I can handle it. Okay, I can handle this. Right? Then you start realizing, wow, there’s a real reward to letting this go. And you start welcoming it, literally.

No matter what it is, you say, come on, come on, you’re welcome, come up, come on up. I don’t want you inside of me anymore. And I told you, I’m embarrassed to talk about it, you reach a point where you apologize for the stuff you shoved down there. You weren’t evolved enough to handle it, and so you pushed it down there.

It’s not its fault. It’s like a part of your psyche you pushed down there. And you start welcoming it up and helping it up, saying, it’s okay, I’m here. The Gita says one should raise the self with the self, not trample down the self with the self, for the self can be the self’s friend, and the self can become the self’s enemy. It’s talking about the higher self helping the lower self, not hating it.

You’re not trying to get rid of it. If I was trying to get rid of it, you’re pushing it away. The behavior I’m supposed to have: I’m not supposed to do this, I’m not supposed to swear, I’m not supposed to do this, not supposed to look at anybody, not supposed to want this. Oh my God. You’re just basically pushing everything away, instead of saying, this is a divine being letting go of the junk he stored when he wasn’t evolved enough.

And it’s welcome to come up inside. I don’t have to go with it, but it’s welcome to come up inside of me, and I welcome it. I say, you’re welcome in me. Worship it. You’re usually worshiping your stuff. Why? ‘Cause this is what stands between you and God. You are God, but you shoved all this junk down there, and so now you can’t experience who you are.

So if it starts coming up, no matter how — is it painful? Of course it’s painful. Somebody once wrote me, does it have to be painful? Well, I don’t know. If it’s stored with pain, it’s gonna come back with pain, right? So the whole thing is about, you don’t have to go to God. You’re already with God. You have to stop leaving.

You leave to come down here, push all this stuff away, and manipulate everybody and everything to be the way you need it to be so you’re okay. Eventually you just literally realize your spiritual path is, no, no, I don’t want all this stuff in here. I’m not putting any more in there. That I can tell you right now. You wake up in the morning: I am not gonna shove any more down there today, period.

I don’t want more down there. It’s enough trouble getting it out. I have noticed, to be fair, if somebody says one thing and I resist it, it could take years to get that out of there. Next time I see the person, I feel resentment, and then I want them to apologize, and then they don’t apologize. Oh my God.

One thing I shoved down there. It took one minute, one word they said. And now I gotta… No. I’m not putting it down there, every moment that I possibly can, with every act of will. That’s what I’m gonna use my will for. And I’m not perfect, don’t even begin to think about it. I don’t like using the word “I,” right? But I’m going to devote myself to the best of my ability, which means will.

That’s your ability to use every moment of life to pass through. And once it passes through and I’m not reactive and I don’t dislike it or need it, then I can look and see, can I help? But you don’t need to look and see. That leaf doesn’t have to look and see how it’s falling. When you let go of yourself, what will be left is God dancing with his creation.

It is the truth. And you keep letting go of yourself. That’s what Christ meant by dying to be reborn. Christ’s teachings are the deepest yoga that could possibly exist. And so basically, it doesn’t mean to die to be reborn, I’d beat somebody up down there. No, you can’t beat it up. That’s ridiculous. You stored that stuff down there as an act of will. You weren’t conscious enough.

We used the word “evolved enough.” You weren’t ready to handle — who was it? God. The God that fell is dealing with the junk that he fell into. All right, well, you can free him. You can free God. You can free the consciousness. How? You’re conscious. Every day things are gonna come in and you’re gonna feel that reaction.

You hear me? You’re gonna feel the tendency to control, possess, push, resist, grab, cling. Busy, busy, getting, doing, fixing. And eventually you catch on. Let me just first relax. First act, relax, let go. Then you’ll feel, at some point, it’s called the transmutation of energy, a very deep yogic state, where it starts to come in as anger, starts to come in as fear, as insecurity, and you relax, and it comes up as love.

How can anger be turned into love? Because anger is just Shakti hitting blockages. It’s all Shakti. That’s all there is, the dance of Chit-Shakti. So it’s coming in, but you have all these blockages in there, so it hits them and then it sprays out and it makes eddies, and then you can’t handle it, so you express it.

A yogi, a deep yogi, welcomes whatever gets hit. Takes a breath and relaxes first, so that it doesn’t have to be in there. And next thing you know, you’re not being bothered by things that used to bother you. You don’t have to do something to not be bothered. You aren’t bothered. And then all of a sudden you can interact with life where it’s not personal.

You’re just interacting with the flow of energy. So when your dharma — people say, well, how do I know what my dharma is? Your dharma is what’s left when you’re not there. When you’re no longer there, what’s coming out is the dharma. It’s God serving God, right? So we talked about will, so now you understand what will is. Will is a divine force of Chit-Shakti focusing more on one thing than another.

I remember the beginning of the lessons that I took so long ago. Master talked about a Bunsen burner, whatever it’s called, right? That, like a gas stove, it has one flame that gets split into many flames, but it’s still the same flame. Okay, well, that’s what your consciousness is. It’s one consciousness being drawn down onto your thoughts.

Your thoughts, your thoughts, your thoughts, your thoughts. All right. And then I always teach, there’s two major forces that don’t sound spiritual, but they are the most spiritual thing: distraction and identification. The consciousness gets distracted by something, and then it starts to identify with it. I am the person that likes this.

I’m the person that doesn’t like that. That’s ’cause you were distracted by it at some point and you stared at it so much that you lost your sense of self. You identified that as who I am. All of that, everything I talked about all night, is the power of will ultimately. The highest is to relax through. Relax. Everything is coming up

’cause you’re cleansing, you’re letting it go, and you become emptier and emptier and emptier. And then the divine force is free to express itself, and you don’t know anything about it. You don’t ever take credit or blame or anything. There’s nothing like that. And that ultimately, there is no assertion of will, and the highest state is no assertion of will.

And that sounds so contrary to what the masters teach, but it’s not, right? ‘Cause when you are no longer there and there is no opposing force, then there’s just the divine force being the divine force. There’s no individual will. There’s no individual action. There’s no individual. It’s just the dance of creation dancing through its creation.

And it’s not even, not my will, but thy will. It’s just thy will. That’s it. It’s just thy will. All right, so will is a very deep subject. The biggest thing I’d like you to understand: if you go deep enough in meditation, at some point you see it, right? You’re gone. Bye-bye. All right, well, why do you come back?

It’s a lot harder to get out than to come back. I say coming back’s really easy. One phone call, one word, one thought, and then it distracted your consciousness. You’ll see it. You’re gone. And then this thought, or this feeling, or this phone call, or a sound, right? All of your awareness gets drawn down to that.

That’s focused the power of God. That Chit-Shakti focused on that point. And you can think about it, take the right one, the one that comes in right away. You’ll be thinking about it 10 minutes from now. All right? And eventually you get to the point, you understand will is a very, very powerful thing. You have to learn how to use it.

There’s only one proper assertion of will: get me out of here. Use your will to free yourself from yourself. Use your will to free yourself from yourself. How? By relaxing. Just relax. Just relax. Fall back and relax. Let it pass through. All right? That’s the best I can do. Do you understand the power of aligning your will with the divine purpose,

which is enlightenment, which is releasing yourself completely?
