This course is deeply engaging, explaining trauma from a neurobiological point of view in a way that is simple to understand. I also appreciated Dr. Levine's recording, in that his tone and pacing conveyed a soothing experience. I'm grateful that Dr Levine's scientific inquiries are finally bringing a way for Western medicine to embrace the wisdom traditions of indigenous traditions, and particularly on the emphasis of mind-body connection. I see Dr. Levine's work as revolutionary, enabling a scientific understanding of the actual biological mechanisms, whereby stress and trauma wreak havoc on the body. With Dr Levine's theory of nervous system deregulation, it is really interesting to have an explanation of "mental illness," that instead of just describing the pathology (i.e., not enough serotonin, etc.) offers both an explanatory framework for HOW that came to be the case AND what is actually happening in the body that is causing an individual to feel so much distress.
