When it comes to meditation, Pema Chödrön is widely regarded as one of the world's foremost teachers. Yet she's never offered an introductory course on audio—until now.
On How to Meditate with Pema Chödrön, the American-born Tibetan Buddhist nun and bestselling author presents her first complete spoken-word course for those new to meditation.
Through traditional insights and her personal guidance, offered in 12 sitting sessions, Pema Chödrön will help you honestly meet and compassionately relate with your mind as you explore:
- The basics of mindfulness awareness practice, from proper posture to learning to settle to breathing and relaxation
- Gentleness, patience, and humor—three ingredients for a well-balanced practice
- Shamatha (or calm abiding), the art of stabilizing the mind to remain present with whatever arises
- Thoughts and emotions as "sheer delight"—instead of obstacles—in meditation
"From my own experience and from listening to many people over the years, I've tried to offer here what I feel are the essential points of meditation," explains Pema Chödrön. Now this beloved voice shares with you her accessible approach—simple and down-to-earth while informed by the highest traditions of Tibetan Buddhism—on How to Meditate with Pema Chödrön.

Not good Review by Rodger
This is a recording from a workshop or something - I guess if you were there live it would have a different effect. Waste of money, kind of babbles, which you get in a live thing but the babbling is annoying when meditating. Thought I would get new insights to meditation but just is annoying. This is the cd I've been looking for…it gives all the info that i have somehow missed throughout the ears..meant to put years but ears works too..ha ha.
Anyway it is really detailed without being boring and the meditations include hearing, touch/sensation and sight. She recommends meditating with the eyes open to emphasize full presence to what is happening now and that is very challenging. This cd is very difficult to zone out to, she asks for a real presence to get the work done but I always felt like i had her kindness nudging me on. (Posted on October 3, 2014)

I was unable do download successfully & was unable to obtain assistance in doing so. Therefore, I have not experienced this download unfortunately. I won't risk ordering again as I paid and didn't get what I paid for. (Posted on September 22, 2014)

Just got this. Am having a bit of a problem downloading to iPhone which is the device I would listen to this on. I did manage on my PC...but when I hit the first session...it seems like i jumped into the middle of the course? There is no definite beginning i.e. " Introduction" ? Susan W said the segments were not in the proper order. Can someone tell me the proper order of the recorded segments? Is this a professional recording? The way it is presented visually one would assume so. Any advice anyone?? Don't want to give this a rating as I have not listened so I will for now and come back afterwards to review (Posted on July 11, 2014)

This well produced, systematic and very practical guide to meditation is taken from live recordings during meditation classes.
Pema Chodron offers a gentle but disciplined approach to discovering your own ability to guide yourself through meditation by establishing an attitude of kindness and curiosity. Her attention to the detail of experience draws us closer to the present moment as it is described.
She graces this recording with openness, genuineness and lightheartedness that makes being her student so rewarding.
Thank you. (Posted on April 23, 2014)

I bought the eBook and the MP3. Pema is deceptively simple. I find that rereading or relistening to her uncovers more and more insights.
So, she manages to speak to beginners AND to seasoned meditators at the same time.
I guess I'm probably in the latter category, although it often feels like I'm beginning over again. I recommend both eBook and MP3 recordong wholeheartedly... (Posted on April 17, 2014)

The program is great. I am not up on my tech language, but who ever copied the tracks for the download, did not number them correctly, so the tracks were not in order as you listened to them.
I only know that this was the problem because I got help from my man friend who builds computers and systems. He fixed it for me and re-numbered them so they played in order. the material is wonderful. I love Pema Chodron's gentle spirit and presentation. I just thought you would want to know about the downloading process. Have a good day. thanks for all the good programs that you and your staff publish. (Posted on April 16, 2014)
Review for How to Meditate with Pema Chödrön Review by Anthony B
Very comprehensive review of major meditation methods. It is excellent on dealing with stability, emotional turmoil, basic postures, working with sound and sight, and many other elements of calm abiding. Pema Chodron has a great talent of talking in a friendly way but covering many points and also in giving the philosophical foundations of meditation. She has a great intuitive knowledge of our psychological problems and some ways of dealing with them. (Posted on July 11, 2013)
