Meditation Meets Neuroscience—Practical Tools to Reshape Your Brain for Awakening
We are inspired by the living example of great teachers, who have both penetrating insight and a loving heart. “With modern neuroscience, we’re now beginning to understand the brain processes that support these wonderful qualities of mind,” explains Dr. Rick Hanson. With The Enlightened Brain, this pioneering neuropsychologist explores how you can activate these same processes inside your own brain to accelerate your own transformation.
Self-Directed Neuroplasticity—How Our Mind Shapes Our Brain
Your thoughts and feelings continually sculpt your brain—for better or worse. As Dr. Hanson teaches, you can use the power of self-directed neuroplasticity to take control of the evolutionary tendency of your brain to react to life with fear, frustration, and heartache—and return your brain to its natural state of calm, contentment, and caring. With simple and potent practices, he reveals how you can weave positive thoughts and emotions into the fabric of your brain, allowing you to cultivate the qualities of mindfulness, virtue, and wisdom for your own path of awakening.

Excellent Practical Guidance Review by Jeb
Consumer Orientation: This course is appropriate for virtually anyone over the age of twelve.
Value: Hanson is a reputable neuropsychologist and his techniques are firmly grounded in science. The effectiveness of these techniques is well-established.
Strengths: Hanson's presentation of the material is easy to understand and easy to follow, and the guided practices themselves are simple, logical, and straightforward. Every talk is rich with interesting information that also has direct practical implications.
Weaknesses: Many meditators will find the guided meditations in this series to be too short/condensed. The series is designed in such a way that the meditations are essentially embedded into lectures. While this design is certainly conducive to learning the methods, you may find yourself feeling as though you still need to do a proper meditation despite having just completed a session. Some sessions span across the end of one disc to the beginning of another, whereas one session per disc would probably have been the preferable format.
Notes: Despite its apparent Buddhist association, the material is suitable for anyone, regardless of philosophical or religious orientation. In my opinion this is one of Sounds True's best audio learning courses. (Posted on March 15, 2015)

Rick Hanson has the ability to explain concepts in simple terms that most people can understand and apply to their own situation. I was in law enforcement for over twenty-eight years and I wish I had a mentor like Rick during those years.
