Over its 34-year history, the Insight Meditation Society (IMS) in Barre, Massachusetts, has become a spiritual home to thousands and is now among the most respected centers for learning and deepening meditation practice. Based on curriculum first developed at IMS, the Insight Meditation online course invites you to experience one of history’s great contemplative practices as it was taught by the Buddha himself, then passed friend to friend for more than 2,500 years.
This self-paced course was originally presented in a 12-week, intensive online learning program highlighted by live audio-learning sessions with IMS cofounders Sharon Salzberg and Joseph Goldstein. Our on-demand edition brings you these sessions as they happened, with an additional 17 hours of audio instruction and online workbook material with exercises, articles, and private journaling.
For most of us who have thought about meditation, the challenge has always been, “How do I get started and then keep going?” The Insight Meditation online course offers you the answer as you explore for yourself the Buddha’s path to true freedom one moment at a time. Note: This online course is an adaptation of Insight Meditation: A Correspondence Course and includes essentially the same content as the original course.

Review for Insight Meditation Review by Jazz Eastman
This wonderful course is incredibly well structured, clear and progressive introduction to insight meditation. leading one from the basic focus on the breath to working with a different facet of the practice in successive weeks. How to work with thoughts, emotions, the classic hindrances, metta and more. It is clear that the reviewers who gave this course 1 or 2 stars have not done it, so my advice is to read the reviews carefully. Whilst it is true there are many wonderful free resources on the web-I have over recent years listened to many hundreds of hours of meditaion and dharma talks- this offering is sooo worth it. One of the best purchases I've made this lifetime. (Posted on January 12, 2012)

I did in the Insight Meditation Course, not online but in CD form. This course is a gold mine! I have always wanted to have a meditation practice and through this course I finally have one. I live in a remote area where there is no Buddhist temple. I have also heard other people comment that to be able to have such a complete, through and systematic presentation is hard to find. It is not often that a very wise and seasoned instructor starts at the very beginning and takes you step by step through what you need. Finally, I don't know of where else you can get the opportunity to talk on the phone to an instructor. This is not offered in the CD version of the course. There you have more of a letter correspondence. So, that seems like a nice opportunity. (Posted on November 22, 2011)

Great material with powerful principles to practice. The insturctors Q&A sessions are awesome. I beleve that they are the best teachers in this practive. The online approach is very nice. I found out that chapter six is missing in the PDF document download provided and it is available on the main web page. Also, the MP3 files are very nice. However, the file names uses can cause clutter on your ipad player. It would be nice if they provide an email address to report these issues. I hope that someone will read this feedback and make some improvements. (Posted on August 4, 2011)

I was wondering for a while if I should take this course or not. I have read a number of books on meditation and buddhism over the last 10 years, but never taken an online course, and the price tag concerned me a bit. However, I can't say how impressed I am with this course. Shannon and Josef delivers a very extensive and deep course with hours and hours of quality podcasts on all the essential aspects of meditation practice. This course will give a broad and grounded foundation for any meditation practitioner, and it is well worth the money, even though the price tag might be a bit steep for many. Great course! This sounds like a wonderful class but the time of day (night actually) is quite problematic for those of us on the left coast who must get up in the morning and go to work. I hope it will be offered again earlier in the evening. (Posted on December 24, 2009)
