John P. Milton

John P. Milton is a pioneering spiritual teacher, meditation master, vision quest leader and shaman. His vision quest and shamanic work began in the 1940's. Since the 1950's, thousands of people have sought his powerful yet gentle qigong and meditation instruction, Sacred Passage programs and vision quest guidance. In addition, for over 25 years John has taught T'ai Chi at his Golden Flower school. He embodies a unique blending of scientific grounding and spiritual awareness.

He is a former professor of environmental studies and Woodrow Wilson Center scholar at the Smithsonian. John received his M.S. in ecology and conservation from the University of Michigan in 1963. John also helped birth the environmental movement in the early 1960's. He was one of the first ecologists ever on staff at the White House as a member of the President's Council of Economic advisors.

Drawing upon his meditation and qiqong practice, often informed by direct contact with many of the world's most potent spiritual teachers and lineage's, John developed a unique Awareness Training. Buddhist, Taoist, Tantric, Vedantic and Shamanic traditions are magically blended, merging powerful practices for uniting inner and outer nature.

John is the author of many books and articles on inner development and ecology. He is also the founder of Sacred Passage and The Way of Nature Fellowship. In the early 1970's John established Threshold, a foundation devoted to spiritual liberation in Great Nature. Threshold and Sacred Passage programs inspire Earth Stewardship by cultivating natural wisdom and an open, loving heart in the wild. Threshold's Sacred Land Trust demonstrates John's life long devotion to the mystery of Gaia, allowing deep ecological and spiritual values to guide his own path.

John continues to live, explore and lead wilderness trainings in many of the Earth's wild and sacred places. He and his guides offer Sacred Passage Awareness Trainings and wilderness solo experiences year round for individuals and groups.
