Life In Balance
Life In Balance, the husband-and-wife team of Steve Sciulli and Ami Sciulli, is a nationally touring and recording duo committed to merging sacred musical instruments with current technology in order to create an integrated sonic environment for transformation. They perform both sound healing meditation and dance/music concerts using hypno-global rhythms. Life in Balance has been touring consistently since 1998—from Anchorage to Key West, from the Delaware beaches to Denver, and cities in between.
Life in Balance is in heavy rotation on radio shows; they were featured in the “Living Room Concert” series on the National Public Radio program Echoes. John Diliberto, host of Echoes, stated, “Their music ranges from deep meditative drones to the electronica dance grooves of their latest CD, Star. Life in Balance shows us the way.” Their music has been aired on the syndicated radio show Music from the Hearts of Space, as well as many Internet radio stations like Astreaux World and Ambient US. Jim Brenholts, producer of Tracks Across the Universe: Chronology of Ambient & Electronic Music, said, “Steve and Ami have been on a mission for years promoting the holistic healing arts of music. They are at the edge and in the center, knocking on the door to the perpendicular universe!”
Life in Balance is forging ahead with original music that cannot be defined as New Age, ambient, or electronic. Their music is a hybridization and synthesis of these elements with early influences from Fripp and Eno, Kraftwerk, Tangerine Dream, and Peter Gabriel. Some notable people they have played with/for include: Deepak Chopra, Robert Thurman, Lee Carroll, and Patricia Cote-Robles. They have also performed with Robert Rich, Rusted Root, Jon Serrie, the Dharma Bums, Krishna Das, and the Drepung Gomang Tibetan Monks. In addition to their work in Life in Balance, both Steve and Ami each have exciting solo careers.
Steve built his first synthesizer at the age of 10 and started the flute at 14. He was a founding member of the early 1980s progressive group Carsickness (which Trouser Press compared to Van der Graaf Generator) and the Celtic rock band Ploughman’s Lunch, along with numerous other regional and national touring musical groups.
Steve's input in the tristate regional music and art scene has been well documented over the last 20 years. He has composed and recorded music for over 30 major theater, dance, film, and performance art groups. He has also organized numerous musical events though out the western Pennsylvania region. A partial list of musicians that Steve has recorded and performed with includes: Paddy Keenan (Bothy Band), Philip Chevon (The Pogues), and Pat Kilbride (The Battlefield Band). Steve has played support shows for such diverse groups as: U2, Jon Serrie, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Echo and the Bunnymen, Rusted Root, and Ani Difranco.
Ami Sciulli is a longtime student of metaphysics who has developed an ability to remain in a space of expanded expression and to transmit this frequency through pure thought and the perfect structure of quartz crystal bowls. Understanding that there is a unifying energy that connects everything, she produces sonic wave vibrations that reach the receiver at their own level, allowing them to connect with and then resonate with the vibrations as they grow stronger.
