Thomas Hübl: Healing Collective Trauma

Thomas Hübl is an Austrian-born contemporary spiritual teacher and the founder of the Academy of Inner Science. With Sounds True, he has recorded the audio training The Power of We: Awakening in the Relational Field and written a book titled Healing Collective Trauma: A Process for Integrating Our Intergenerational and Cultural Wounds. In this episode of Insights at the Edge, Tami Simon speaks with Thomas about healing collective trauma as the work of our time. They discuss how we can feel and are affected by major traumas of the past, even if we didn’t directly experience them, and the ways in which this contributes to our collective separation. Thomas also explains the concept of “retrocausality,” or the potential for the healing we undertake in our lifetimes to benefit our entire family lines. At a time when so much ancestral trauma, multigenerational trauma, and cultural trauma is in our midst, Thomas invites us to turn toward it and join together to heal and integrate the pain of the past as we create a different future.

Spiritual Awakening in the Relational Field

Contemporary spiritual teacher Thomas Hübl has spent much of his life helping to bring a deeper dimension of self-awareness and responsibility to people’s inner lives. In 2008, Thomas founded the Academy of Inner Science, an organization devoted to the exploration of modern mysticism and spiritual awakening. With Sounds True, Thomas has released the audio program The Power of We. In this episode, Tami Simon speaks with Thomas about the importance of asking the correct question when triggered in a relationship. They also talk about the two competencies Thomas believes are necessary for the process of spiritual awakening. Finally, they discuss the nature and necessity of transparent communication in the awakening process. (73 minutes)

Just One Question | Pānquetzani: How Do We Honor Our ...

Tami asks Pānquetzani how she would put words to the devotion she so clearly feels toward her ancestral line. The answer starts in the body. During her first postpartum womb adjustment, Pānquetzani felt an anger release that she is certain wasn’t hers — it was inherited, and it had arrived alongside the gifts.

That’s the premise of her work as a traditional healer of Mesoamerican and Mexican medicine: the gifts and the wounds come together, and tending the wounds is the job. Her ancestors survived colonization and violence, and they didn’t survive it only for themselves. So she owes them reverence — paid not in words but in living. Slowing down. Crying. Dancing. Sensual and sexual pleasure. All the things they may never have had the privilege to do.

Then there’s her son. At fifteen he taught himself metalwork — knives, swords, bows, tools. Pānquetzani showed the work to her eighty-three-year-old grandmother, who said, oh, your grandfather used to do that. A whole family trade back in Mexico, a shop, generations of it, and nobody had ever mentioned it. He found his way back to it because he was given room to follow what he loved.

In this episode:

  • Why ancestral gifts and ancestral wounds arrive together
  • Making your life an altar — reverence as something you live rather than something you say
  • Healing lineages backwards, and telling the dead their suffering wasn’t in vain
  • What thriving actually means: joy, energy, celebration, and getting your medicine to the people who need it
  • The inheritance beyond the physical — the energetic, mental, and social resources previous generations went without

Just One Question | Shamini Jain: How Can You Heal Fro...

There’s an elephant in the room anytime someone talks about energy healing, an elephant named Placebo.

For most of us, placebo means you got the sugar pill. It means whatever’s happening is all in your mind, not in your body. That’s even what Tami thought when she sat down to talk with award-winning researcher in psychoneuroimmunology and trained clinical psychologist Shamini Jain, PhD, in 2023.

But here’s the thing—placebo isn’t the thing science needs to control for and throw out. It’s the measurable evidence of what our bodies do on their own, and Shamini makes the case with research most of us have never heard about.

In this episode:

  • The open-label placebo studies where patients are told outright they’re receiving a placebo—and improve anyway
  • The four elements Shamini says show up in every healing encounter: expectation, conditioning, relationship, and meaning and ritual
  • Why placebo-controlled surgery trials should make all of us ask harder questions
  • What the antidepressant data actually says—and why “we work” may be the better takeaway than “the drugs don’t”

Mallory and Chris have spent the past year and a half working on a podcast about energy healing (Phenomena) and Sounds True is offering—right now—an immersion course on energy healing featuring Shamini Jain as well as Robert Peng and Laurie Nealon…so now felt like the perfect time to bring this conversation back. And maybe rename that elephant for good.

Laurie Nealon: “Energy Healing with Help From the Ot...

What if you were never working alone—and neither was anyone you were trying to help?

This week, Tami Simon speaks with Laurie Nealon, an intuitive energy healer, medium, and educator whose work is profiled on the Sounds True podcast Phenomena: The Science and Stories of Energy Healing. Seventeen years ago, Laurie began seeing and hearing those who had passed—not in dreams, but in the middle of her waking life. She resisted it. Then she built a practice around it.

Join Tami and Laurie to explore:

  • What Laurie actually perceives when someone who has died “appears”—and how she learned to filter it
  • Integrated Energy Therapy (IET), attunement, and why she calls the practitioner a facilitator rather than a healer
  • The “spiritual support group”: angels, guides, ascended masters, and loved ones she says fill the room during a session
  • A guided practice—rolling the energy—you can do in two minutes before you get out of bed
  • The screen technique: how to stay open to love without carrying everyone else’s journey
  • Why “lightening someone’s load” may actually dishonor their path
  • Entity energy, imprints, and what clearing a block really means
  • Tami’s hardest question: what about the people who did everything right and still died?
  • A closing prayer Laurie offers for every listener

Laurie’s conviction is that none of this is exotic. Everyone, she says, should be trained in energy healing the way everyone is trained in CPR—and everyone has the capacity to open to their own gifts.
