Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estés Presents Volume Five of the Dangerous Old Woman Series

“What makes an elder, a heartfelt spirit, a clear mind, a talented heart, one who is young while old and old while young, an activist for the Soul? Is it formulae, schemas, lexicons? It could be. But also, and often more so, I think it is very like the flowering of the trees in the forest, as we gather more years: we straggle and stride onward in our better learned ways to give out even more seeds for new life, and to blossom wildly in so doing for self and others … The old ones are yet traveling underground and overland toward us as we meet one more time: La Vidente, the Seer; La Que Sabe, the Knowing Woman; La Levantadora, the Lifter of Curses—the Dangerous Old Woman in her many likenesses calls to you to 'get down to business.'” —Clarissa Pinkola Estés, PhD

How to Be an Elder presents the culmination of Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estés' masterwork, inviting us to “come into our own as wiser and wild souls” through six sessions of teachings, stories, poetry, and blessings. In this fifth and final volume of Dr. Estés' landmark series, we will explore how it is that through the gathering of our years we become a beautiful refuge for ourselves, our Souls, and for those who come after us.

“Did I mention, dear brave souls,” reminds Dr. Estés, “that you came with all the seedlings needed to do your work, to take your venerable places in life? Now is the just-right time, like Sleeping Beauty, to break the enchantment, to truly awaken and awaken others, as either a rookie Dangerous Old Woman, or a mid-career Dangerous Old Woman, or as Crone with Crown complete!”

The Joy In Becoming An Elder

Dr. Estés’ five-volume audio masterpiece, ‘The Dangerous Old Woman,’ ends with this volume ‘How to Be an Elder.’ It seems right that the series ends here. Although each volume can be listened to in any order, it is helpful to have listened to the previous recordings as a foundation to this one. To those unfamiliar with her work, it is difficult to describe the wisdom, insight, inspiration and stories packed in each volume of this series.

With the myriad skills of a therapist with decades of experience, and a depth psychologist and Jungian analyst at the top of her game, Dr. Estés deftly blends well-known stories, personal family legends and insight into a series of audio recordings that engage and inspire the listener.

As is usually the case with great work, teaching happens at many levels. Although Dr. Estés is a certified Jungian analyst, that label is too limiting. While Carl Jung and Joseph Campbell raised awareness of Archetypes, many cultural stories, legends, myths and wisdom have passed on from our ancestors for millennia. Often practitioners of depth psychology become Jungian analysts as a result of their education and studies. Dr. Estés seems to have been born to become one of our generations greatest oral and written story tellers, commune with Archetypes, Saints and Angels, as well as maintain a relentless desire to help, inspire and advocate for others.

One of the greatest gift of this series is its ability to guide the listener to discover Who They Really…

Review for How to Be an Elder

Clarissa Pinkola Estes is a master storyteller. She is amazingly insightful and has a vast knowledge of different versions of fairy tales from all over the world. She understands that these stories play a part in each of our psyches. Her wonderful gifts include the ability to explain these tales so that the listener can easily understand. Her love of life and people is so evident as she desires to move us toward healing and wholeness. I have purchased several of her CD sets and have never been disappointed.

Review for How to Be an Elder

thank you sounds true and cpe - this may be my favorite of the series; unfortunately the only one I didn't get to experience live. in conjunction with years of immersion in wwrwtw, these sessions by the fireside in dr. e's danger undid and re-arranged the unfortunate lessons of my past and offered practical, down and dirty insight for immediate use. best therapy ever!! much love to you all, with gratitude.
