Understanding the breadth of what is meant by desire in the tantric tradition
Full Description

The Tibetan Vajrayana tradition is sometimes called The Path of Desire. Buddhism is often interpreted as “anti-desire” in the sense of anti-attachment or craving. Tantric practitioners, however, believe that within the genuine experience of desire there is wisdom and energy that can help us both follow our hearts, and can even bring us into an experience of nondual union with luminous space. Desire, in this context, refers not just to sexual desire, but also wanting, yearning, and longing in all its manifestations.

In these seven talks, Reggie leads us in a very thorough meditative investigation of the experience of desire. He begins with a discussion of the historical roots of Buddhist tantra, goes on to explain how desire can be a gateway to awakening, and then offers several guided meditations on neurotic desire, non-impulsive desire, and the self-existing fire of unconditional love. These talks were given in varied settings—some academic lectures and other intimate retreat teachings—during 2009.
