TamiSounds True founder Tami Simon finally released her original audio program, Being True, which distills essential lessons learned from her 30 years of spiritual exploration. The first 90 minutes of this audio are available for free on our website.

Our Vision

Sounds True was founded in 1985 by Tami Simon with a clear mission: to disseminate spiritual wisdom. Since starting out as a project with one woman and her tape recorder, we have grown into a multimedia publishing company with more than 80 employees, a library of more than 1,500 titles featuring some of the leading teachers and visionaries of our time, and an ever-expanding family of customers from across the world. In more than three decades of growth, change, and evolution, Sounds True has maintained its focus on its overriding purpose, as summed up in our Mission Statement.

Sounds True’s mission is to wake up the world.

Sounds True partnered with Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach to launch the Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program, our first professional certification training. This two-year course prepares teachers to bring practices for mindfulness, compassion, and lovingkindness into the world, allowing participants to earn certification from the Greater Good Science Center at the University of California, Berkeley.

This year saw the official launch of the Sounds True Foundation, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization designed to make transformational education widely available to communities in need no matter what their financial circumstances are—including survivors of violence, at-risk youth, prisoners, veterans, individuals with disabilities, and those in developing countries. We are also focused on training social leaders in the skills of mindful awareness from areas such as law enforcement, education, social justice, and environmental activism. If you’re interested in supporting the Sounds True Foundation and its mission to create a kinder and wiser world, you can learn more on the foundation's website.

In order to reach more people than ever before, Sounds True entered an exclusive distribution relationship with Macmillan Publishers, one of the top 5 publishers in the world. This is an exciting opportunity to make life-changing teachings available to readers and listeners around the world through expanded distribution into retail stores, gift shops, and mass market channels.

At Sounds True, we have created the world’s largest living library of transformational teachings that support and accelerate spiritual awakening and personal transformation. We make this living library available on multiple media platforms and in multiple languages for people of today and for future generations.

We partner with the leading spiritual teachers on the planet to make their teachings accessible through books, audio programs, online learning experiences, and in-person events.

We bring people together to connect and accelerate the journey of personal growth and awakening.

We provide a trustworthy and safe online home for spiritual explorers, where you can show up with authenticity and meet others on the path. We warmly welcome beginners while remaining true to the depth and challenges of the spiritual journey.

We create shifts in consciousness that unlock our greatest human capacities to love and serve.

How we work is as important as what we do.

Here are the values that inform how we work at Sounds True:

  • Being of Service

Being of service is an attitude of the heart, a posture that wants to help and give generously, expanding the love and goodness in the world. We seek to serve our own highest nature, each other’s good, and the healing of the world.

  • The Commitment to Grow and Transform

It can be challenging to grow and transform. It takes courage, receptivity to feedback, and introspection to confront our blind spots, feel the pain of old patterns, and commit to new ways of being. This is the path of self-awareness, the path of waking up to our full potential to connect and contribute.

  • Exceptional Teamwork

Exceptional teams create exceptional results. Such teams are highly collaborative and consist of “ideal team players,” people who are consistently humble, hungry, and relationally intelligent.

  • Authentic Connection

We connect with each other authentically by being vulnerable, telling the truth, and listening deeply. Connecting in this way builds relationships of mutual trust, respect, and understanding.

  • Being Kind and Direct

We are committed to resolving our interpersonal challenges through direct communication in a spirit of kindness. We are also always looking for opportunities to extend ourselves, uplift each other, and be kind.

Sounds True is a mission-driven business that focuses on multiple bottom lines and honoring all of our stakeholders.

Sounds True is committed to succeeding in terms of three bottom lines: Purpose, People, and Profit.

We fulfill our purpose by publishing titles that inspire, support, and serve continuous spiritual awakening and its expression in the world. Fulfilling this purpose is our reason for being.

We value our people by creating a workplace that fosters authenticity, personal growth, and community. The reward comes through evolving as individuals and caring for each other.

We create profits through working together creatively and efficiently. Optimizing our profitability enables us to reinvest capital into the business and expand our reach, making the other two bottom lines possible.

We are committed to honoring all of Sounds True's stakeholders. This includes:

  • Our authors and artists. We strive to create relationships with our authors and artists that are based on partnership and transparency, and which are characterized by honest and open communication, equitable agreements, and a commitment to act with care and integrity.
  • Our customers. We value the intelligence of our customers and are committed to providing them with substantive, genuinely transformative learning experiences. Our titles are carefully produced and beautifully packaged and are backed by Sounds True's 100% Satisfaction Guarantee.
  • Our employees. Through a positive work environment, health benefits for families, flexible schedules (when possible), and an employee training and assistance program, we invest in the well-being of all Sounds True employees.
  • Our vendors. We are committed to treating our vendors the way that we want to be treated by other companies—with fair terms and paid on time.
  • Our investors. We are committed to growing the long-term value of the business through careful planning and reinvesting our profits into innovation and growth.
  • Our community. Through a matching donation program (matching employee gifts to nonprofits two to one) and Sounds True's Prison Library Project, we are committed to supporting those who are doing good in our community.
  • Our earth. We offset 100 percent of the power we use in our offices with wind energy credits, and we are committed to using recyclable materials to the fullest extent possible in all of our catalogs, books, and packaging.
