Raj Sisodia: “Business Leaders, You Have a Sacre...

“Is it okay that we are hurting people in order to make money?”

That’s the question Raj Sisodia has been putting to business leaders for two decades—and he isn’t asking rhetorically. This week, Tami Simon speaks with the prolific author, professor, and cofounder of the conscious capitalism movement about his new book, Healing Leaders, and the seven-step spiral that took him from a successful academic career into the deepest healing work of his life at age 60.

Join Tami and Raj to explore:

  • Why “false profits” mask the real cost of business as usual—in burnout, stress, and lives
  • The four pillars of conscious capitalism, and why doing all of them together changes everything
  • Strength without love is tyranny; love without strength is ineffective—the leaders who held both
  • What happened when four women asked Raj how he could write a book on healing without healing himself
  • LIST: the acronym for love, innocence, simplicity, and truth that arrived in the Amazon
  • “Choose your past”—the counterintuitive step that moves a leader out of victimhood
  • Why your trauma isn’t your fault, but healing it is your responsibility—especially if you lead
  • How to conduct a layoff with love, and the company that furloughed instead of firing
  • Why this backlash moment is a test of how deeply we actually believe in these principles

Whether you lead a team of three or three thousand, Raj offers a bracing case that the inner work you keep postponing is the most generous thing you can do for the people who depend on you.

Raj Sisodia is guest faculty for Sounds True’s Inner MBA®, a six-month immersion program created in collaboration with the Greater Good Science Center at UC Berkeley. Learn more at innermba.soundstrue.com. →

This conversation offers genuine transmission, not just concepts about awakening, but the palpable presence of realized teachers exploring the growing edge of spiritual understanding together, and originally aired on Sounds True One.

E210: The True Meaning of Spiritual Evolution

The essence of spiritual growth is not fixing the mind or emotions, but recognizing the consciousness that is aware of them. Suffering arises because awareness becomes absorbed in thoughts, emotions, and psychological patterns stored from the past. Spiritual evolution occurs by allowing experiences to pass through with acceptance instead of resisting them. As you release these inner blockages, your natural state of peace, joy, love, and freedom begins to shine through without depending on external circumstances.

Just One Question | Shamini Jain: How Can You Heal Fro...

There’s an elephant in the room anytime someone talks about energy healing, an elephant named Placebo.

For most of us, placebo means you got the sugar pill. It means whatever’s happening is all in your mind, not in your body. That’s even what Tami thought when she sat down to talk with award-winning researcher in psychoneuroimmunology and trained clinical psychologist Shamini Jain, PhD, in 2023.

But here’s the thing—placebo isn’t the thing science needs to control for and throw out. It’s the measurable evidence of what our bodies do on their own, and Shamini makes the case with research most of us have never heard about.

In this episode:

  • The open-label placebo studies where patients are told outright they’re receiving a placebo—and improve anyway
  • The four elements Shamini says show up in every healing encounter: expectation, conditioning, relationship, and meaning and ritual
  • Why placebo-controlled surgery trials should make all of us ask harder questions
  • What the antidepressant data actually says—and why “we work” may be the better takeaway than “the drugs don’t”

Mallory and Chris have spent the past year and a half working on a podcast about energy healing (Phenomena) and Sounds True is offering—right now—an immersion course on energy healing featuring Shamini Jain as well as Robert Peng and Laurie Nealon…so now felt like the perfect time to bring this conversation back. And maybe rename that elephant for good.

Tami Simon: Being a Spiritual Entrepreneur

A magazine article about Sounds True founder Tami Simon referred to her as a “spiritual entrepreneur.” At first, Tami wasn’t sure about the label. Yet over time, she came to appreciate and embrace it. Today, the art of spiritual entrepreneurship is a central facet of Sounds True’s Inner MBA® program.

In this host-only episode of Insights at the Edge, Tami shares her thoughts and feelings about what it means to lead a company dedicated to the well-being of its employees as equally as it is to business success. For anyone looking to bridge their innermost values with how they make a living, Tami reveals seven principles of the spiritual entrepreneur, with insightful guidance on honoring the voice of the heart; leading with presence; why relationships need to come first; creating a culture of care, engagement, and well-being; alternating between high performance and good rest; how to embrace challenges as growth opportunities; claiming our personal agency and doing the work of “cleaning up”; business as a means to address real social needs; maintaining trust in the unfolding process; making a commitment to “lift each other up” in the way we do business; recognizing our interdependence; and more.

Tami Simon: Embracing Paradox: A special micro-episode

Tami Simon is the founder and CEO of Sounds True, as well as the host of Insights at the Edge. In this special episode, Tami celebrates an amazing milestone: her five-hundredth podcast. Speaking on her many years as an interviewer, Tami explains that she has been able to take in all the competing, often contradictory viewpoints of her subjects by embracing the concept of paradox. She shares numerous examples of contrasting ideas (such as the roles of anger and surrender in spiritual practice) that she has entertained as truth. Tami considers the paradox of becoming more in tune with herself over the years while also learning how interconnected she is with all other beings. Finally, Tami mulls the painful contradiction of brilliant teachers who also prey on the vulnerable and what this means for the overall quest for spiritual discovery. (36 minutes)

What do you truly want? Wealth? Recognition? A perfect relationship? At our core, reflects Michael Singer, what we really want is to be happy: to dwell in a place of joy, love, and freedom from fear. In this episode, he shows how our thoughts and emotions lead us astray with solutions and goals… and how to experience the deeper, complete part of our being that transcends both external events and the misguided perceptions and tendencies of the mind.

E10: Overcoming Lower Vibrations and Embracing Spiritu...

Human consciousness is often distracted by lower vibrations like fear and insecurity, which prevent us from experiencing higher energies such as love and joy. Spiritual growth is a constant process of learning to handle reality’s vibrations without being pulled down. By mastering how we react to reality, we can experience higher states of being and, ultimately, serve others through love and compassion.

E100: You Are Not What Happened: You Are Who Experienc...

We misperceive life and spirituality by fixating on tiny fleeting experiences and projecting personal meaning onto them. We build our entire self-concept and emotional world out of a narrow slice of reality that we selectively store in the mind—what we liked, disliked, feared, or attached to—while ignoring the vastness of the universe unfolding all around us. True spiritual growth lies in learning to accept, honor, and handle reality as it is, with openness and reverence. By releasing our fixation on our own mind, we can awaken into joy, love, and freedom, becoming examples of great light that can uplift the world through our presence.

E101: Transform Daily Life into Your Deepest Spiritual...

Meditation alone cannot bring lasting peace into this world. This is because we return from meditation to the same deeply seated, unresolved disturbances we’ve been storing in the mind. True liberation comes by relaxing through and releasing these disturbances rather than struggling with them on a daily basis. As we purify the mind, divine energy (Shakti) rises naturally, lifting our consciousness into our true nature—oneness with all of creation.

E102: Reality Is Bigger Than You Think

We don’t realize how tightly confined we are to our personal mind—its thoughts, beliefs, preferences, past experiences, and suppressed emotions. This represents such a tiny subset of reality compared to the vastness of what actually exists. Spirituality is about transcending that limited frame of reference and opening up to a world that is not filtered through our ego. Every moment is part of a vast cosmic unfolding, and the key to joy and spiritual freedom lies in expanding awareness beyond oneself.

E103: From Preference to Presence: The Journey Beyond ...

We create tremendous suffering by shrinking our world to the narrow confines of our personal preferences. They have the effect of locking us in a house of our own building wherein we don’t realize there is a whole universe outside that house. Through sincere inner work, we can expand our awareness beyond the limits of ourselves into a world of peace, clarity, and selfless giving.
